Arba Minch University will host its 1st national workshop on ‘Forensic Chemistry and Toxicology’ at Main Campus on 29th April, 2017. Top-notch officials from Federal Police Commission, Crime Investigation and Forensic Directorate, academicians, and others will be in attendance.

The workshop beginning at 8 am with speeches and presentations on forensic toxicology will be marked by AMU signing a joint agreement with Ethiopian Police University College, St. Paul's Hospital Millennium Medical College, Mekelle University and Dagimawi Minilik Hospital to support, share, exchange experiences, knowledge, discuss success achieved and challenges faced in this increasingly important socio-scientific arena in Ethiopia.

The proposed pact is aimed at working jointly in education it will facilitate training, research activities, exchange of scholars to participate in conferences, symposia and seminars, in fields of interest to both parties.

Further exchange of faculty, research personnel, graduate and undergraduate students for study and research, practical training in pre-identified or otherwise selected field site; exchange of teaching materials, if necessary and strengthen link between science and society, informed, Chemistry Department Head, Mr Abiyu Kerebo.

This workshop assumes great importance for, in this hi-tech era, crime investigation has acquired a scientific dimension where forensic chemistry holds the key in detecting crime that helps in ascertaining concrete evidences to nail the culprit. In that context, this workshop will be a window of great learning for AMU graduates, its staff and for partnering institutions.

AMU President, Dr Damtaw Darza, will open the workshop, Dean of Natural Science College, Dr Alemayehu Hailemichael, will welcome the gathering while Academic affairs Vice President, Dr Yechale  Kebede, will give the closing remarks.

The key-note speeches will be delivered by Ethiopian Police University College Commissioner, Mr Teshale Teshome and designated officials of St. Paul's Hospital Millennium Medical College and Mekelle University.

The representatives of esteemed organizations across Ethiopia likely to partake will be from Federal Police Commission, Ethiopian Police University College, Crime Investigation and Forensic Directorate, St. Paul's Hospital Millennium Medical College, Mekelle University, Dagimawi Menilik Hospital, JIJE Laboratory Glass Private Limited Company, Wise Team Plc, Ethiopian Public Health Institute, Food, Medicine, Healthcare Administration & Control Authority and Farm-Tech International Private Limited Company, etc.

Later in the day, an excursion to Arba Minch Crocodile Ranch and Chamo Lake will be organized by Corporate Communication Directorate Director, Mr Fissiha Bekele and dinner-cum-musical event will be hosted at Arba Minch Tourist Hotel.
