Arba Minch University has signed a huge contract worth ETB 912 million to construct student clinic, smart classrooms, library, Geography laboratory and staff offices at Main, Chamo and Abaya campuses on July 7, 2017, at President’s Office. Click here to see the pictures.

AMU President, Dr Damtew Darza in the presence of university top officials signed the contracts with respective contractors; the construction activities of all six installations at respective campuses have already started.

This much-awaited three-storied Clinic at Main Campus will have Out Patient Department and Inpatient Care to serve huge number of students is being constructed by Addis Ababa-based FE Construction at the cost of ETB 106 million. It’s likely to be completed within a year, informed Construction Project Office Manager, Mr Abebe Banjaw.

He further said that Clinic will have 10-beds, a laboratory, pharmacy, examination rooms, store and administrative office. Initially it will extend preliminary health services to students of Institute of Technology, but in case, when patients require extended healthcare services or emergency care will be referred to Arba Minch General Hospital.

It will be for the first time in AMU’s history, four-storied smart classrooms at Main Campus will be built by Etete Construction that will incur ETB 262 million. Such innovative classrooms will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities like LCD screens, overhead projectors, etc. to be built within one and a half year.

Smart four-storied class-rooms at Chamo Champus for both under and post-graduate students to be built by Romadi Construction and Modcon Construction, costing ETB 75 and 60 Million respectively. The time limits for these constructions are 445 days.

And 4-storied library at ETB 169 Million by contractor Mr Tilahun Abebe and two-storied Geography laboratory by TNT Construction at the cost of ETB 60 Million will be built at Chamo Campus. Similarly, four-storied staff office at Chamo Campus will cost 60 Million and four-storied staff office at Abaya will incur ETB 120 Million.

On legal provision to govern all contracts, Mr Abebe said, AMU will be contemplating to adhere to the liquidated damage, that enables clients to ask for monetary claims in case of unjustified delay caused by them, he averred.
