AMU’s Indigenous Studies Research Unit and Sewgna Production & Entertainment (SPE) to foster culture promote history, tourism and harness nature’s mojo through applied research, documentation and documentaries inked an agreement at Main Campus on 12th May, 2018. Click here to see the pictures.

The memorandum of understanding, which was signed on the sideline of 5th national seminar on ‘Research for Development’ has both the parties collaborating on mutual areas that will go into portraying true cultural worth of Gamo Gofa, Segen People’s and South Omo and stimulating tourism, said, Indigenous Studies Research Unit Coordinator, Mr Salsawi Feleke.

AMU’s Research and Community Service Vice President, Dr Simon Shibru, Sewgna Creative Director, Mr Michael Million, signed the agreement in the presence of researchers and officials. Mr Michael Million and Salsawi Feleke will be liaising on behalf of their respective organizations.

SPE, a social initiative based in Addis Ababa potentially promotes nature, culture and history; it believes that art is a language that interconnects humanity in any situation and each should reach out to the level of excellence to seek, to be and to govern self.

The MoU enjoins AMU to conduct collaborative research activities, organize events, document tangible, intangible heritages and tourism resources. It will jointly promote tourist attractions and potentials; hold joint workshops, symposiums and exchange professionals, conduct seminars and impart capacity building training, etc.

SPE will produce documentaries and feature films, promote protection and cultivation of natural, cultural and historical heritages; perform live interpretations, enactments and museum theatre and would engage in joint activities mentioned above along with AMU.

Both the parties will be using reasonable efforts to procure funds and other resources to support their respective goals; neither of them will incur any expenses nor make any commitments until funding is confirmed in principle by authorized individuals of each party.

Each party will conduct their activities stated in MoU as per law and regulations and duly comply with anti-bribery rules. All creative art work stated to be protected under copy right and patent law.

This agreement with no clear timeline allows either party to terminate the pact without cause by furnishing one-month notice that doesn’t entitle either party compensation of any kind. Dispute and claim arising out of it will be resolved within the framework of Ethiopian law.
