Total 191, Arba Minch University students have donated blood in a camp organized at Nechsar, Abaya and Main Campuses, on different dates.

In a three-day camp jointly organized at Main Campus, by Arba Minch University Charity Club and Arba Minch Blood Bank, South Nations Nationalities People’s Region from 13th to 15th January, 2014, 97 students have donated blood.

 

Arba Minch Blood Bank with their two nurses and laboratory technicians began the camp on January 13. Each student has to undergo the established process that began with blood pressure check-up, weight and haematocrit test to determine the presence of required amount of hemoglobin in the blood of an individual who wish to donate.

On the first day, around 18 students donated the blood, followed by 42 and 37 students on the subsequent days at Main Campus. AMU Charity Club (AMUCC) managed by students periodically conducts various welfare events that boosts the morale of student community and offers aid to the needy students.

AMUCC also organizes and promotes those activities supporting humanitarian cause thus benefitting surrounding community and blood donation camp was one of them.

Arba Minch Blood Bank, situated at Arba Minch Hospital is governed by South Nations Nationalities People’s Region. These sort of camps are generally organized thrice in a year, but this one has been the first ever in this year at AMU campuses, blood bank official said.

The blood donation camp organized at Nechsar Campus on November 6, 2013, in which 63 students, and at Abaya Campus 31 students on November 29, 2013, donated blood.
