The Horn of Africa Regional Environment Centre and Network (HoA-REC/N) through its STRONGBOW (Sustainable TouRism based On Natural resource Management with Gender Balance towards Women) project is calling for quality research proposals. STRONGBOW Project is the Netherlands initiative to build institutional capacity in Natural Resources Management, Tourism and Ecotourism, a Nuffic funded project led by the Horn of Africa Regional Environmental Centre (HoAREC/N) of Addis Ababa University on behalf of the Ethiopian consortium.
The Horn of Africa Regional Environment Centre and Network (HoA-REC/N) through its STRONGBOW (Sustainable TouRism based On Natural resource Management with Gender Balance towards Women) project is calling for quality research proposals. STRONGBOW Project is the Netherlands initiative to build institutional capacity in Natural Resources Management, Tourism and Ecotourism, a Nuffic funded project led by the Horn of Africa Regional Environmental Centre (HoAREC/N) of Addis Ababa University on behalf of the Ethiopian consortium. The project pursues Demand Driven Action Research (DDAR) as one of it's program elements to promote Eco/Tourism through Wildlife protection and Natural resource management.
The DDAR program provides funding for selected research proposals that are in line with the STRONGBOW project objectives. The research topics for the DDAR program are forwarded by partner universities and member organizations GO’s, CBOs, NGOs and others, all active in Natural Resource Management and Eco/Tourism related development projects.
For the first batch the funding is available for the best proposals on the following research themes: Please note that these are not proposal titles rather thematic topics.
1. Soil and water conservation and sustainable livelihood
2. Protected areas and community interaction
3. Economic valuation of ecosystem services
4. Gender and Nature based ecotourism development
5. Conservation forest based biodiversity through sustainable livelihoods
6. Community Tourism and natural resource Conservation in Ethiopia
7. Vegetation dynamics and wildlife conservation in Ethiopian National Parks
8. Prospects and challenges of eco-tourism development in Ethiopia
9. (Eco) tourism (potential) in Ethiopia and small and medium enterprise
10. Carbon sequestration potentials of protected areas.
Interested graduate university staffs (AMU university staff members who are pursuing their Masters program in any of Ethiopian Universities) are encouraged to submit well structured research proposals to be eligible for STRONGBOW research grants. The deadline for proposal submission is July 15th, 2012. General format for proposal writing
1. A maximum of 10 pages (including annexes)
2. Written in plain English (with no spelling errors)
3. A title page with concise title, name of affiliated university/ department, name of advisors, address of applicant and names of co-investigators (if available).
4. Brief background and statement of the problem and rationale for the study
5. Clear objectives
6. General methodology and study design
7. Expectations (outputs/results)
8. Detailed budget breakdown and time plan
9. List of references and annexes
10. One page C.V. of applicant to show degrees, experience, and posts held.
11. The budget should not exceed $3000. Unnecessarily inflating the budget will undermine the value of the proposal,
12. The proposal should be signed by the main supervisor.
