The IQE Center is the offshoot of Academic Development Resource Center (ADRC) which has vigorously contributed in the professional development of AMU academic staff through trainings, curriculum development, internal quality audit and resource provisions.

HDP came into being in 2007, with an objective of enhancing the teaching skills and honing professionalism of AMU instructors thereby improving the dispensation of quality education to our students. And till date, over 500 instructors have been trained, Mr Yohannes Tigro, added.

Ministry of Education has mandated AMU, with the responsibility of moderation for four cluster institutions i.e. Hosanna College of Teachers Education, Arba Minch College of Teachers Education, Wolaita Soddo University & Wachamo University.

It’s a sort of Training of Trainers, where University instructors are trained in four modules i.e. Reflective Teacher Educator (30 hours), Managing Learning (60 hours), Action Research (30 hours) and Organizational or School Placement (12 hours).

The total duration of the training is 132 hours. Each week would have two sessions of two-hour each. And instructors are given 60 hours for independent study. After the training, Higher Diploma Leaders are chosen who in turn train the selected HDP candidates. As of now AMU has six HDLs.

Higher Diploma Program is being carried in three AMU campuses i.e. Chamo centre where this year, 39 instructors have been trained, at Abaya 27 and at Nech Sar 30 instructors. In the coming year, IQE will conduct HDP training for Institute of Technology instructors in the Main Campus.
