Arba Minch University Senate promoted Dr. Muluneh Lemma Woldesemayat, an assistant professor and researcher in the faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, to an Associate Professorship Academic Rank on January 21, 2023.

To get promoted to this academic rank, any lecturer and researcher must fulfill the necessary requirements of effective teaching, research publication, community service, and active engagement in institutional affairs in accordance with the AMU Senate Legislation Article 56/4 and MoSHE directive of academic promotion, AR01/2020. The Senate approved Dr. Muluneh’s credentials which were endorsed by the Staff Development, Promotion and Scholarship Senate Standing Committee (SDPSC) as sufficient to promote him to Associate Professor.

Dr. Muluneh Lemma, who was born in 1981 in East Wollega Zone, Fincha, completed his primary education at Fincha and Secondary Education at Shambu high school. He was graduated with his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Arba Minch University in June 2004 and he earned his Master of Technology Degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, India, in 2009. He also received his PhD Degree in Electrical Engineering from Pohang University of Science and Technology, South Korea, in 2017.

Dr. Muluneh started his professional career in 2004 as Graduate assistant II (2004-2005) at the department of Electrical Engineering, Arba Minch University. He has lectured various courses of Electrical Engineering such as Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering, Electrical Machines, Electromagnetic Fields, Object oriented programming and Power Electronics are among others for undergraduate students and Linear System theory, Power Electronics, Advanced Electrical Drives, Power System Planning and Reliability and Research Methods are some of the courses rendered for post graduate students.  

With regard to shouldering institutional responsibilities and holding positions, Dr. Muluneh has been an Associate Registrar of Engineering Faculty from March 2007 - July 2007 and from July 2009 to February 2010, Technical Manager of Sahay Solar Project from September  2010 to July 2012, Student Service Center Coordinator of Arba Minch Institute of Technology (AMiT) from February 2010 to July 2012 with the position of Deputy Managing Director, a Secretary of Arba Minch Institute of Technology Management Council from February 2010 to July 2012, Arba Minch Institute of Technology Research and Community Service Directorate Director from February 2018 to November 2019, Deputy Scientific Director of Arba Minch Institute of Technology from Nov 2019 to November 2020, Renewable Energy Technology Research Center Director from November 2020 to September 2021, Delegate Scientific Director of Arba Minch Institute of Technology from December 2020 to September 2021. And from September 2021, he is the Scientific Director of Arba Minch Institute of Technology.

Dr. Muluneh has authored and co-authored a number of research outputs. Some of these include “Zero Torque Control for EV Coasting Considering Cross-Coupling Inductance” in 2017, “Modeling and Verification of a Six-Phase Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor” in 2018, “An Anatomy for Recognizing Network Attack Intention” in 2019, “Reduction of Harmonics using Hysteresis Control of Permanent Magnetic Synchronous Motor” in 2021 and “Security Enhancement of Power Systems through Interline Power Flow Controller (IPFC) under Contingency Condition: A Case Study and Analysis-EEP 400 KV System ” in 2022 among among others in the list.

He has also two utility model certificates from Ethiopian Intellectual property office. Dr. Muluneh also earned an Award from Ministry of Education in 2011 for his outstanding achievements and also got additional certificates and special trophy award at 2nd International Educational Exhibition in 2011.
