Arba Minch University will be celebrating its silver jubilee from 2nd to 4th January 2014. The university has planned a three-day celebration which will have slew of programs i.e. exhibitions, panel discussions, music show etc. to commemorate its success in different arenas.

 

The event will be carried out under the tutelage of the Silver Jubilee Main Committee chaired by AMU President, Dr Feleke Woldeyes; the chairpersons of 11 sub-committees will be its members. AMU authorities are expected to invite higher political authority (ministers) to grace the occasion.

Having founded in September 1979 EC (1986), AMU has made a great stride particularly in the field of water resource engineering; with its international level of expertise, it’s a name to reckon with in the entire region.

Anchored to its mission, AMU has proved its inclusiveness and commitment by creating equal opportunities in the field of higher education. It has a lion’s share in the economic growth of the region by churning out professionals and fostering unprejudiced religious environment, a great impetus for any individual to make all-round progress.

This silver jubilee celebration might be taken as the culmination of its on-going endeavor to make its students one of the best citizens in the world and for Ethiopia in particular. Eleven sub-committees formed for the organization of the celebration are as follow:

Publication & Advertisement Committee, headed by Corporate Communication Directorate Director, Mr Genene Gedebu, will bring out required publications i.e. banners, special bulletins, brochure, post-card, T-Shirts, badges etc.

Exhibition & Tour Committee manned by Institute of Technology’s Scientific Director, Dr Negash Wagesho, will organize exhibitions of varied innovative hi-tech equipments, research findings etc. The expo will be open for people living in the surrounding.

Research and Community Services Vice President, Dr Guchie Gulie, who is heading Panel Discussion Committee, will organize discussions on AMU’s contribution in the development of the nation in the context of various engineering aspects.

Fund-Raising Committee will be taken care of by the Director for Revenue Generation, Mr Geresu Beyene. Entertainment and Arts Committee under Director for Students Support Service Centre, Dr Teshome Yirgu, will host different kinds of musical and cultural events.

Estate Development Director, Mr Brook Gisila’s Decoration Committee while beautifying the entire campus will take care of required logistics like stage, sitting arrangements etc.

Security Committee under Vice President for Administration and Development, Dr Kassa Tadele, will be the sole in-charge of strategic security issue encompassing entire university.

Dean of Natural Science College, Dr Alemayehu Hailemichael, has the overall responsibility of hospitality for the in-house and as well as external invitees.

Alumni Relation Committee under Academic Affairs Vice President, Dr Agena Anjulo, will scout for AMU Alumni, invite them and forge an alliance with for long-standing relationship.

Purchase & Finance Committee will be managed by its chairperson, Mr Debalke Dalcho, whereas Reception Committee will be under the Dean for Distance and Continuing Education, Dr Yechale Kebede.
