Dr Temesgen Endalew Legesse, the winner of Gold Medal, stood tall among 46 Doctors of Medicine graduated this year from College of Medicine and Health Sciences, nurtures a desire to make his tomorrow always better than today!

He scored 3.63 CGPA; convincingly flooring others he has absolutely unconventional approach to studies that catapult him to the top earning sublime recognition which he did it with finesse!

A native of Chenna woreda in Kafa Zone got schooled from Shishinda Secondary School. His father, Mr Endalew Legesse, the pillar of strength, whom he credited with the honor bestowed upon him by putting Gold Medal around his father’s neck was an amazing act of reverence.

On personal ambition, he says, I love to treat patients holistically, for which internal medicine is the best bet. Though the final year gave a practical opportunity to imbibe essence of medical profession, wherein internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics and gynecology play pivotal role, I will continue to excel in internal medicine which acts as the clinical rainbow for medical profession.

Further, he said, I will always try to be better from my today and would like to go for specialty in psychiatry that will help me to reach my goal of becoming a perfect physician with a humane heart.

On future plan, he said, ‘‘If Arba Minch University will give me a chance, I would go for Master studies. My profession basically entails service to the community, which does bring income but for me soul satisfaction matters a lot.’’

On his family, he said, I have six siblings, including myself three brothers and sisters each. Father Mr Endalew Legesse is a teacher and mother, Zewditu Demissie, a nurse. My first brother is an engineer; second sister a chemical engineering student in Jimma University, third brother in Axum University and two are younger ones.

How he could achieve his feat, he said, ‘‘literally, I had no plans; at times, I would study full night or two days at stretch skipping sleep and food, but never avoided having fun, because, I feel it get you recharge for the challenge ahead.’’

Fiddling with the computer is his hobby; therefore, right from discovering different programming that will aid and promote internal medicine to greater extent will be his cherished dream. He feels future will be handled by computer, so why not get ready for unpredictable challenges.

On professional front, he wants to handle medicine daytime by means of teaching and treat his patient in the AMU’s Referral-cum-Teaching Hospital. He attributes entire credit of his success first to God then to his family.
