College of Natural Sciences was founded as the ‘Faculty of Science’ in 2004 with a view of producing creative researchers, outstanding academicians and community welfare-centric scientists in different areas of Natural Sciences.
Presently, it’s situated at Abaya Campus near Paradise Lodge with ‘Yegzerdildey’ (God’s bridge) at its right that separates Chamo and Abaya lakes providing beautiful look that manifests the earnest academic aspiration of Arba Minch University.
The Faculty of Natural Sciences then had four departments as one of four faculties at Arba Minch University. Since, then number of academic programs at undergraduate and post-graduate level in the college has increased.
In the backdrop of this history, college has worked to train graduates with excellent critical, analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills. College’s carefully vetted curriculum equips students with expertise to think out-of-the-box, strengthens character, nurtures global mindset and instills other fundamental qualities.
College of Natural Sciences being responsive in understating the emerging needs of the community, business and service sectors and nation in particular has launched several market-oriented and need-based academic programs. These programs build their capacity and quality to get placed in areas like industries, laboratories, mining, schools, private enterprises, central, regional and local government bodies, NGOs, research and education institutions.
Initially, major subjects like, Biology, Geology, Mathematics and Meteorology and Hydrology were introduced. Thereon, based on timely need-assessment, the college has been prompt in addressing the rising needs, newly under-graduate (B.Sc) program in Forensic Chemistry and Toxicology clearly testifies its commitment in that direction.
