Newly formed Center for Livestock and Fishery Research (CLFR) of Arba Minch University has recently hosted its maiden research review workshop at Kulfo Campus, wherein six projects on ruminant nutrition, animal health, dairy & meat value chain analysis, poultry production and fish ecology were presented. CLFR director, Mr Chencha Chebo, welcoming gathering said in this modern era research is the ultimate pivot on which hinges our aspirations; it provides energy, give direction to our academic endeavors hurtling us to the desired destination. This centre being in the nescent stage, I urge all researchers to be proactive and push your innovative ideas on our thematic areas to evolve a dynamics that will serve the emerging needs of our community.

He also lauded the dean of College of Agricultural Sciences, Dr Yisehak Kechero, for being the custodian of this centre; and hailed AMU Board and top officials for their unstinted support and urged all for feasible research proposals and mega projects on animal, aquatic bioscience and technology. He intended to make this centre a place wherein training will have a unique feature.

The review workshop begun with Dr Nejib Mohammad delving into his research – ‘Investigation of awareness, knowledge & risks of zoonoses among rural farmers, butchers & urban-dwellers in Gamo Goffa Zone.’ Mr Dagne Tafa’s findings on characterization of fish ecology, hydrological and limnological phenomena in South Omo River has revealed some starling facts.

Other presenters, Mrs Wagaye Alemu, Mr Eshete Assefa, Mr Agidew and Mr Desta dwelt upon issues as performances of improved local chickens, fish species diversity, dairy and analysis of beef cattle value chain respectively. Academic staff and researchers were in attendance.
