The office of Vice President for Research and Community Service, stated in its press communiqué that AMU will be hosting 3rd international edition of ‘joint field course’ in collaboration with KU Leuven, Belgium, ETH Zurich, Switzerland and Eldoret University of Kenya beginning from 17th to 30th November, 2019.

The theme of this course is ‘Research-based Education for Sustainable Rural Development and it will be hosted in Chencha, Dorze, Mirab Abaya, Lante, Chano Dorga, Dembille and Gerese.

It further states that on the occasion, 21 students and 8 professors from KU Leuven, Belgium, 15 students and 3 professors from ETH Zurich, Switzerland, while Arba Minch University will have 30 post-graduate students and 6 resource persons; four professors from Eldoret University, Kenya, will also join the course as resource persons.

The 1st joint workshop in this regard will be held on November 18, 2019, at Post-Graduate Building assembly hall at Main Campus. For the next 5 to 6 days all the team will stay in their respective project sites for the field work.

It’s important to note that 1st international collaborative research program of PG students between AMU, ETH Zurich, Switzerland and KU Leuven, Belgium, was hosted at AMU that had 52 students, who completed ‘Field Work’ from 7th to 18th November, 2017, at seven sites in the erstwhile Gamo Gofa zone. Simultaneously, by then the national version of ‘Joint Field Work’ was held in Kenya.

Similarly, last year, when AMU had hosted 2nd national edition of this event, Kenya had hosted its international version at University of Eldoret from 14th to 24th November, 2018, wherein 52 PG students that included 20 from Kenya, 20 of KU Leuven and 12 ETH Zurich, Switzerland.

Research and Community Service Vice President, Dr Simon Shibru, has informed that likewise, this time round when AMU is hosting international version of this flagship event, Kenya will have national level field course.
