AMU’s Institutional Quality Enhancement Centre (IQEC) has conducted a five-day instructional skills training for senior and newly recruited university teachers to instill pedagogical skills in them thereby enhancing the quality of education. The training began at Main Campus from October 13, 2014.

Opening the training, President’s delegate and Academic Affairs Vice President, Dr Agena Anjulo, emphasized that teachers play great role in shaping the fate of the nation by nurturing students in right way as they are the building blocks of the nation.

He also informed the teachers about the rules and regulation and asked them to be more responsible while discharging their duties as a teacher, because he feels, they are the pillars of the society.

IQEC Director, Mr Yohannes Tigro, welcoming the gathering, said, ‘‘This training is primarily devised to hasten the professional development of the teachers, And through four identified modules, efforts are being made to impart pedagogical skills and upgrade teaching aptitude.’’

First three modules i.e. Learner-centered Approach, Instructional Planning and Assessment and Class-Room Management have been taught by the staff members from Pedagogical & Psychological Departments. The fourth module, Ethical Aspect of Teaching in Higher Education was handled by one of the instructors from Civics and Ethical Education Department.

With the formation of three groups for five days, each group had to undergo 11 hours of orientation in Learner-centered Approach, 8 hours of Class-room Management, 10 hours for Assessment and Instructional Planning and 6 in Ethical Aspect of Teaching in Higher Education, informed Mr Yohannes.
