Arba Minch University and Bonn University, Germany, Geography Department has signed a general Memorandum of Understanding to work in the fields of Social Science at Management Building on February 25, 2016.  Click here to see the Pictures.

 

President-delegate, Dr Damtew Darza, and Prof. Sabine Troeger of Bonn University inked the agreement in the presence of university officials.

This preliminary agreement will push both parties to get into the specifics of collaboration on indentified core areas of cooperation specially in South region, where German government along with German Academic Exchange Agency, DAAD, are interested to fund the projects.

Initially both parties have agreed on the needs and challenges that range from societal transformation in pastoralist and small farmers livelihood in southern region, modern techniques and practices in research methodology and training to bachelor and master level students at AMU. Later on there will be specific projects within this framework.

In a brief deliberation, AMU officials have broadly emphasized on the areas for cooperation like curriculum design, action research, research in highlands, development in the fields of Social Science and Humanities; teachers’ professional development and networking with international research groups etc.

AMU will soon constitute a team to study the specific needs within the agreed areas that would further pave the way for formulating appropriate projects.

According to the agreement, a point person of Bonn University, Prof. Sabine, will convey the specific needs of AMU to the host university and link it with appropriate institutions like GIZ, DIE, DAAD etc. while AMU, would safeguard Prof. Sabine’s stay at Arba Minch.

In lieu, Prof. Sabine informed that visits of AMU staff for next round of talks in Germany would be paid in terms of flight, transport costs, day allowances and the duration of stay can be 21 days each.

Vice Presidents, Dr Guchie Gulie, Dr Yechale Kebede, Dean of College of Social Science and Humanities, Dr Teshome Yirgu, South Omo Research Centre Director, Mr Yohannes Yitbarek, Corporate Communication Directorate Director, Mr Fissiha Bekele, Social Science and Social Anthropology Department head, Mr Eshetu Ewnetu and others graced the meeting.
