AMU has celebrated the 62nd world Meteorology days for the 3rd time; at Abaya Campus on March 23rd, 2012.  Different events were performed by the students and staff of the department of Meteorology science gave the celebration color.

According to the department of Metrology Science, lecturer Ato Gossa Damitew said that,  the 2012 WMD has celebrated in the theme of ‘powering our future with weather, Climate and water ’. This focuses on the critical roles of weather, climate and water services in powering a sustainable future for the current and the coming generation.

The celebration is commemorates the ratification of the 1950, WMO (world Meteorology Organization) convention of the establishment of the organization. It is the 3rdcelebration for AMU where different thematic essay on the impacts of climate Changes and global effects has been presented by different Meteorology and Science staff members.
The issued addressed by the presentations, included Coping with impacts of climate variability and climate Change in water Management by Ato. Gossa Damitew. It has indicated that the traditional methods of water resource development and project planning are based on the assumption of “stationary Climate”.
In the less developed countries, where there is no availability of sufficient meteorological data, there is a tradition of “Interviewing elders” for project Planning. However, Climate changesMay produce variability outside the range for which current infrastructure was designed and built.
In harmony with these assumptions of stationary climate (interviewing elders) is no longer valid in any project planning related to water resource. In order to cope with climate change in water resource, thus a commitment to a no regrets policy of integrated water resource management is needed, according to Ato Gossa.
During the celebration, staff members from the departments and the 2012 graduating class students graduate’s candidate of Meteorology and Science were participated.
The presentation built the bridge on the information gaps between the water and climate sectors in order to improve the capacity to cope with the impacts on water management of Increasing climate variability and change, according to the participants.
Finally, the 2012 WM Days celebration in AMU was end up with having the common understanding on the themes of the year.
