The livestock and fishery research center (LFRC) is devoted to advance research that is not covered by teaching units (departments, schools, or colleges) which can also spell out the research thematic areas. The establishment of the research center will highly contribute to AMU's research and community service vision and mission.

The LFRC is designed to boost the center of excellence in livestock research, which makes the center unique in doing things differently and created to further the wealth of experiences acquired from past experiences. This research center is expected to carry out things that the academic mission of the university cannot be achieved within existing structures and capacities. The center is also expected to excel in advancing research competence. The LFRC ensures cost efficiency and effectiveness on the premise that manages the utilization of limited budget and other resources of AMU. It also attracts resources, through the production of outputs from different livestock farms which will be established in research stations, rather than depletion of resources. As livestock systems are integrated into a human, crop, and environmental systems, the research focuses of LFRC will call research projects/proposals from various departments and colleges/centers of AMU.

The center has national as well as international mandates for livestock research which will grow and expand with a distinctive, nationally and internationally recognized research profile while meeting the needs of our local communities. LFRC  in collaboration with institutional, national, and international stakeholders will strive to increase extramural awards in support of research programs and to be a major contributor to the university's strategic goal of the transformation to a research-based teaching university that contributes to food and nutrition security and sustainable development. It will focus on programs that are high-needed, supported by the relevant research organization, and can be delivered effectively to the community.

The Centre has the following activities:

Undertaking problem-solving research concerning Fisheries and aquatic sciences and technology, Dairy and Meat science and technology, Poultry science and technology, Apiculture and sericulture, Feeds and nutrition science and technology, Livestock disease diagnostic and prevention technology, genetics and breeding, reproduction, postharvest and food safety, ethics and environmental concerns, socio-economic, gender and extension services of domestic livestock.

Generating and disseminating new information through publication, as well as administering and promoting the transfer of replicable and widely applicable technologies.

Scrutinize problems relating to broader areas of livestock agriculture, fishery, and aquaculture including post-harvest technology by developing cooperative programs with other organizations and research centers, and Universities.
