Professor Teshome Yirgu Bayu was born on 27/8/1961 GC. He is a full professor in Land Resource Management in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies, College of Social Science and Humanities at Arba Minch University. He received his Ph.D. in Environmental Geography from Andhra University, India; M.Sc. in Land Resource Management and MSc. in Geography and Environmental Studies from Addis Ababa University. He also obtained Advanced Training in GIS and Remote Sensing Techniques, Diploma in Law, Higher Diploma in Teaching Geography in Higher learning Institutes and Certificate in school management and leadership.

Professor Teshome has served as an Executive Research Director, Student service core process Director, Dean of College of Social Sciences and Humanities, Dean of College of Teachers Education, Dean, Teacher’s Training Institute, High school Director and teacher in varying parts of Ethiopia

Professor Teshome has published more than 25 peer-reviewed articles in international journals. He has authored one text book on Geomorphology for under graduate students prepared teaching materials on population and settlement geography, Climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies. He offered several course for undergraduate, MSc and PhD students. Some are Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation, Integrated Environmental Resource Management, Dryland Ecology and Pastoral Development, Natural Resource & Rural Livelihood for PhD students, integrated participatory watershed management, Wetland Functions and Threats, Advanced Cartography and Map Reading, Advanced Statistics & Soft Ware Application, Advance Research and Quantitative Techniques in Geography for MSc students.

Professor Teshome Advised  3 PhD students and 26 MSc Students; .and Currently advising 6 PhD students (from AMU, Addis Ababa University, Dilla University and Bule Hora University) and 4 MSc students at AMU. His area of research interest is Climate change and mitigation strategies, Soil and water management measures & physio-chemical properties of soil, Wetland resource management and adaptation,  Land use/ land cover dynamics and environmental constraints, Women land right and policy related constraints.

Currently Professor Teshome is teaching and Advising PhD students and engaged it three mega research projects (on Domba watershed, Gofa zone; Gamo highlands and Kulfo watershed, Ethiopia) and two thematic area-based research projects.
