Background
Arba Minch University’s commitment to expanding access to quality higher education led to the establishment of the Continuing Education Coordination Office in 1989 E.C. Initially focused on providing short-term, specialized training in water science for professionals, this initiative marked the beginning of our journey in alternative and flexible learning. Driven by growing demand and a mission to serve the broader community, the program’s scope expanded significantly. It grew to encompass evening, summer, distance and weekend programs, evolving from a coordination office into a full-fledged college in 2005 E.C. In alignment with the University’s autonomous strategy, a pivotal transformation took place in 2017 E.C. with the restructuring as the Directorate of Continuing and Distance Education Programs (CDEP), with coordinating offices across all campuses. Follow this mission, the CDEP at Abaya Campus was established to serve as a cornerstone of the University’s commitment to community engagement and its mission of lifelong learning. We are dedicated to empowering working professionals and diverse learners, enabling them to advance their academic and career goals without disrupting their professional or personal commitments.
