Arba Minch University congratulates and wishes all the best to Pal Mai Deng, AMU post graduate Masters of Business Administration (MBA) 1st year foreign student, on his current government appointment as the Minister for Water Resources and Irrigation in the Republic of South Sudan. On November 7/2022, it was learnt that Pal Mai was appointed as the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of South Sudan by President Salva Kiir Mayardit.

Arba Minch University expresses its sincere congratulations and successful official career best wish to Pal Mai Deng with great pride on his becoming to hold such an important higher government position and AMU believes that this great opportunity will be tapped for sustainable bilateral communication of the two nations. AMU also extends its congratulatory message to all South Sudan students following their education in different programs in AMU.

Pal Mai Deng attended his primary education in Akobo in Sudan & junior education in Pignudo junior school in Ethiopia. He also completed his secondary and preparatory education at Agenge High School and Gambella Senior Secondary and Preparatory School in Ethiopia.

Enrolled in September 2008 at Addis Ababa University to pursue a BA Degree in Public Administration and Development Management, he graduated in September, 2011. Having worked at various areas in the Republic of South Sudan, he joined Arba Minch University to study his Master’s Degree in Business Administration.

It’s learnt from his personal CV details that Pal Mai Deng served his nation in multi-sectorial activities in national and international levels. He was a County Commissioner for Akobo West and Deputy Governor of Bieh state, a Lieutenant Colonel of Military, and worked with humanitarian organizations in different positions, and in others.

Pal Mai Deng was president and founder of Southern Sudan Students’ Union in Ethiopia, School teacher at Administration for Refugees’ and Returnees’ Affairs at Pignudo Refugee Camp. He was a project officer on human rights and human rights activism at South Sudan Human Rights Society for Advocacy at Akobo Base, Early warning, early recovery and emergence coordination officer for Save the Children UK-South Sudan Programme,  Community Development Officer on rural access to justice with Pact South Sudan, Attended foot drill training and operational tactics in military, Lieutenant Colonel in command of one-and-half sized company of 200 strong men, involved in combat operations in southern and eastern upper nile fronts and Human Resources and Administrative officer at Walgak Base.

Finally, once again wishing fruitful official career, AMU looks forward to Pal Mai Deng to continue and complete his education with his convenience at ease. AMU also will see some opportunities to plan & execute certain partnerships together with South Sudan academic & research institutions working on water resources and irrigation.
