Arba Minch University’s prominent Enset Processing &Technologies’ researcher, and coordinator for the Enset project, Dr. Addissu Fekadu, wins a grant of 2.3 million ETB from Bio and Emerging Technology Institute (BETi) for his proposal on "Production, Popularization, and Commercialization of Value added Enset-Based Food Products through the Adoption of Proven Processing -Technologies."

As stated in the BETi award notification letter and agreement document, the new collaborative project is funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) Canada, managed by BETi, and will last in 24 months. The project started on June 1, 2023 and will be completed until May 31, 2025.

Dr. Addisu Fekadu said that the national contest was organized to support completed researches and enable them to descend into society. He noted that out of 137 proposals that were submitted for the competition, his was the one to be selected and had the greatest budget allocation of the eight project concepts that were chosen as a nation.

Dr. Addisu further explained that the project will be implemented in Gamo Highlands and focuses on conducting more research on Enset, mainly on the enrichment of new value - added foods from the crop. Additionally, he noted that introducing, and adapting the newly introduced innovative processing technologies to the community and commercializing value-added Enset foods to the market are also additional goals of the project. Local farmers and the unemployed youth of the area will benefit from the project, he remarked
