Arba Minch University together with US Embassy in Ethiopia organized an informative session on American graduate education scholarships for university academicians, undergraduate education scholarship opportunities for local high school students, and Mandela Washington Fellowship and English Language programs in Main Campus on August 16, 2023. click here to see the pictures

Dr. Nejib Mohammed, Special Assistant and delegate for Vice President for Academic Affairs, opening the session said that it’s a great opportunity to win chances of undergraduate and graduate education in American scholarship programs; this can also be a special offer to university staff and undergraduate students in the vicinity high schools. Dr. Nejib congratulated the department of English Language and Literature, College of Social Sciences and Humanities, for winning “Access Micro-Scholarship” English language improvement program. He also emphasized AMU's commitment to strengthen the partnership and collaborative engagements with the US Embassy in Ethiopia.

Mr. Stewart Davies, Assistant Cultural Affairs Officer from the US Embassy, gave a lowdown on Education in USA, Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders Initiative, and “Access Micro-Scholarship” of English language improvement program.  

Dr. Abate Anjulo, the head of the department, expressing his contentment with the achievement of his department in winning the “Access Micro-Scholarship” English language improvement project said that the project will have a budget of ETB over one million and benefits economically weak high school students in Gamo Zone focusing on improving their English Language usage for two years.

Three presentations were made by three team members of the Embassy. Mr. Tekelemichael Tefera discussed available opportunities in studying in the US providing information and the criteria for successful application process.  Mrs. Wubakal Beyene, a public engagement assistant, presented on 2024 Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders and explained different programs and criteria for specific topic areas. The last presentation focusing on "The Professional Development for English Language Educators" was delivered by Winner Meried. Mr. Meried highlighted the potential resources available for teaching and other academic purposes.

Dr. Tesfaye Habtemariam, the Executive Director for Research, anchored the meeting and lead the discussion of the session.

University officials, academic staff, researchers, graduate academicians and undergraduate Grade 11 and 12 students from local secondary high schools were in attendance. Discussions and further elaborations followed the presentations.
