Executive Research Director of AMU, Project Leader and Trainer, Dr. Tesfaye Habtemariam, said that the training is organized with the small grant secured from the British Council's Hornby Trust Fund to ensure the quality of education by improving instructional English language proficiency of secondary school teachers.  He noted that in secondary schools, English is being used as the language of instruction, and currently, poor English language skill of students is becoming a cause of low performance of students with other subjects and regional and national exams. According to Dr. Tesfaye, many studies have confirmed that subject instructors' inability to teach successfully in English has become a challenge in English Medium Instruction; therefore, in addition to this training, we will work to secure additional funding in the future and endeavor to extend training to all secondary school subject teachers in the newly established southern Ethiopia's region through utilizing the cascade model and several technologies.

In her instruction on project proposal writing for grants, Dr. Almaz Baraki from Kotebe Education University remarked that designing an efficient grant project takes time and requires careful attention to each stage of project development. She emphasized that it is crucial to specify the problem that will be addressed in the proposal as well as the most pressing problem that is present at the project site. Despite all, identifying and submitting the proposal to the relevant donors, designing the budget and timeline with extreme care, and having the proposal reviewed by colleagues are all critical factors to consider when developing an effective project proposal, she stressed.

Dr. Abate Anjulo, Department Head for English Language and Literature, stated that these types of trainings play a pivotal role in solving the challenges observed in teaching other subjects in English. Moreover, the instruction in project proposal writing and opportunities significantly contribute to the expansion of our instructors' expertise in producing strong project proposals for funding that enable us to improve English medium instruction in particular and quality education in general.

Among the trainees, Mr. Fissiha Bekele, Ph.D. Candidate, said, that during our two-day training, we learned new concepts about contents, strategies, resources, and assessment methods in instructional English training which makes us capable of providing further training for secondary school teachers. He also said that the training course has highly inspired him to write an effective grant proposal and enhanced his ability to search for research and outreach funds and opportunities.

Face-to-face training contents of instructional English training trainers, Technical skills for hybrid instructional IET training, and project proposal writing were the topics of the training.
