Kibreab Adane (PhD, Assistant Professor)

Dr. Kibreab Adane received his B.Sc. Degree in Information Science from Jimma University in 2008 and his MSc Degree in Information Science from Addis Ababa University in 2013. In 2008, he joined the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology of Arba Minch University as a Graduate Assistant I and was promoted and served as Graduate Assistant II between 2010 and 2013.

In 2013, he became a lecturer. Kibreab was actively involved in extracurricular activities such as committee work and community service in addition to teaching, advising, and researching. From 2018 to 2019, he also held the position of Network and Security Chairperson under the Faculty of Computing & Software Engineering (FCSE). He is now a member of a technical peer review committee in 12+ national and international journals and conferences. He is advising 10+ postgraduate students from different universities like Arba Minch University, Wolaita Soddo University, and Werabe University.

Currently, he received his PhD in Computing and Information Technology Program (System and Information Security ==> AI in Cybersecurity) from Arba Minch University in June 2024. The working title of his dissertation is “Detecting Phishing Websites using Machine Learning, Deep Learning, & Feature Selection Techniques." His research will address important questions regarding phishing website attacks from socio-technical perspectives and develop a detection model for phishing websites by harnessing the power of machine learning and deep learning techniques to enhance accuracy while reducing false alarms and computational time to ensure the safety of online users’ sensitive data. He published one book chapter and five journal articles from his dissertation in reputed journals, which can be used for replication, literature reviews, and future study plans. He is author of "Text Book on Fundamentals of System and Network Administration: Concepts and Technologies."
