While slew of constructions including AMU’s Teaching-cum-Referral Hospital started few years back are making steady progress; soon, newly approved constructions for its five campuses are likely to be launched will cost ETB 275 Millions to university, sources revealed.
Importantly, the building works of AMU’s 400-bedded Teaching-cum-Referral Hospital by Yirgalem Construction, is moving with better pace. After 18 months, it could achieve 20.79% of works while it was expected to reach 28%.
Attributing delay to three key reasons, Vice President for Business and Development, Mrs Rahel Elias, said, ‘‘Change of site, non-availability of designated space and late modifications made to the original plan probably have delayed its expected progress. Nevertheless, efforts are on to make the leeway and we hope it to be completed in the stipulated time.’’
AMU Hospital has all important clinical components embedded in it like Emergency, Out and In-patient departments, OT, laboratories, lift facilities and parking zone, etc. All provisions for the installation of electrical and electronic devices and other important components have been taken into consideration during construction,’’ she emphasized.
Other ongoing building works at Main Campus, notably ‘Water Resource Research Centre’ by Etete Construction has almost completed 70% of it, while internal road works is completely over.
76.04% of fully completed constructions at Kulfo Campus by FE Construction include two dormitories, classroom and management blocks. Other installations like library blocks, cafeteria and staff residence may take three months to get completed, informed Construction Project Office Manager, Mr Abebe Banjaw.
Anjulo Arshe Contractor in the first phase at Sawla Campus have completed 13 buildings that include six blocks of dormitories, three blocks of classrooms, one management office, staff resource and cafeterias is likely to be inaugurated by November 5, 2016.
In the second phase, United Construction and Bright Construction could complete 3 & 4% of works respectively. United Construction is constructing classroom, laundry and laboratories, whereas Bright Construction is building library, cafeteria and access roads at Sawla.
Major installations at Main Campus, Architecture Design Studio, will be completed by November end and Assembly Hall to take 3 to 5 months to get fully ready as electro-mechanical works are underway, Mr Banjaw added.
PG dormitories’ works at Abaya and Nechsar Campuses could reach to 70 and 75%; Limat condominiums are expected to be completed in next three months, both constructions are being carried out by Anjulo Arshe Contractor.
New constructions: In order to give improved healthcare services to mounting volume of students at Main Campus, university will soon construct 4-storied fully equipped clinic. This ambitious ETB 50-Million project’s design is ready, while bidding process is likely to begin soon.
Similarly, additional 4-storied classroom will be built on 1500-meter square of land for Institute of Technology at the cost of ETB 75 Million.
Four-storied new library & classroom, 2-storied Geography laboratory and 3-storied staff office will be constructed at Chamo campus at the cost of ETB 130 million; new staff office block construction at Abaya Campus will cost ETB 20 million.
