Arba Minch University’s Institute of Technology and five premier colleges have launched the first ever PhD in Irrigation & Drainage Engineering and 13 new Post-Graduate programs for the academic year 2006 EC (2013-14), said the Director of School of Graduates Studies, Dr Abebe Habte.

AMU has already started accepting applications for PhD and 29 Post-Graduate programs including 13 newly introduced for the academic year 2006 EC. The last date for the submission of filled in application forms is September 13, informed the Registrar, Mr Mulugeta Habte.

AMU’s  College of Continuing & Distance Education,  is offering exciting summer courses.  Its dean Dr. Yechale Kabede Bizuneh.   says, “We are running different programs including teaching 10 + 3.  This is not for our regular students but we are jointly working with Arba Minch Teachers College.     He said that the certificate teachers are upgrading their education to diploma level and this is offered with Arba Minch Teachers College. About 1799 students are participating in this program, it is learnt.

The Electrical Engineering Dept. at AMIT has ambitious research plans and revealing this is Mr. Yalisho Girma, Lecturer in Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. He along with Mr. Engidaw Abel and Mr. Samuel Tesema has embarked a research on ‘Feasibility Study and Design of Solar PV and Micro-Hydro Power Systems for Rural Regions in Gamo Gofa Zone.’ This research project is aimed at assessing Solar energy and micro hydro potentials of Goma Gofa  Zone and Mr. Yalisho and his colleagues are designing this hybrid system.
