With 13th July convocation bringing down the curtain on 2012-13 academic sessions, Arba Minch University has embarked on a unique initiative. It has designed and rolled out a six-week long ‘Summer STEM Outreach Program’ (intensive laboratory courses) for talented 450 school students hailing from four zones that fall under Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region. Dr. Anil Kumar Medikonda faculty in the department of Meteorology & Hydrology at AMU is to visit Busan South Korea between Aug 19-24 to present a paper at APEC Climate Center. He has been invited for this all expenses paid seminar to present a paper on climate change & climate modeling.

Sustainable Tourism-based On Natural Resource Management with Gender Balance towards Women (STRONGBOW) Project under the aegis of Netherland’s Initiative for Capacity Building in Higher Education – NICHE, Ethiopia, has started four-day ‘Training of Trainers’ workshop on Natural Resources Management skills enhancement at Arba Minch University’s Main Campus. The workshop will continue from 15th to 18th July.

And among these visible changes, education sector is the key where issues like strengthening enrolment, gender equality etc. were looked into that have spurred economic growth and capacity building.
