The College of Medicine and Health Sciences, established in 2008 (2000 EC), is located at Nech Sar Campus. Since its founding, it has prioritized programs that actively address the nation’s healthcare needs. In the past, Ethiopia faced a significant shortage of skilled healthcare professionals. Recognizing this, strategic planning was undertaken to focus on training proficient medical personnel within defined timeframes. The College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS) has become one of the fastest-growing branches of the University, offering various undergraduate and postgraduate programs that have produced tens of thousands of healthcare professionals across multiple fields. Apart from strengthening academic arena the CMHS is actively involved in teaching through its undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including PhD programs, as well as in research aimed at addressing societal challenges. Additionally, it engages in community service initiatives through collaborations at local, national, and international levels.
On July 6, 2024, the Teaching and Comprehensive Specialized Hospital was inaugurated to enhance healthcare services for the community. Since its opening, it has become a key medical service center, offering specialized services including surgery, advanced diagnostics, as well as emergency and outpatient care.
