The following are core activities being implemented in the community service of College Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS):

  1. CDC Training Implementation: AMU, CMHS serve as a training implementing partner where the staff have the opportunity to take part as a trainer and a trainee in the different trainings.
  2. AMREF Health Africa – Consultancy: out office participated as a consultant as well as sub contract implementer in the different activities of this NGO, particularly in activities impacting the improvement of the health status if the community.
  3. Weekly Clinical Support program at: these are the services provided by staff members from the school of medicine, School Nursing, Department if Medical Laboratory Sciences and Department if Midwifery every Tuesday and Friday of each week at the following heath institutions. 
    a. Shelle Health Center
    b. Birbir Health Center
    c. Dil Fana Primary Hospital
  4. Morning Health Education program at: these are the services provided by any staff members from any school or department in the CMHS every 3 working days of each week at the following heath institutions. 
    a. Arba Minch General Hospital and
    b. Dil Fana Primary Hospital
  5. Clinical Midwifery professionals in the department if Midwifery deliver a unique community engagement activity at Chencha Primary Hospital where we exchange our staff members every 2 weeks to delivery quality maternal and reproductive health related services ot the community for free.
  6. Specialist Medical Doctors service at Dil Fana Primary Hospital: we have senior specialist we deliver free medical service in the specialty of internal medicine and pediatrics. This service is also delivery every 2 days of each week.
  7. Free UVP Surgery by gynecologists at Gerese Primary Hospital
  8. Free UVP Surgery by gynecologists at Kemba Primary Hospital 
  9. The community engagement of CMHS continues to tackle emerging, re-emerging infectious outbreaks of any kind in collaboration with the Zonal Health department and the different Woreda Health Offices. We have participated in Measeals, COVID-19, Leishmania, Trypanosoma and different skin diseases mitigation this far with our professionals. 
  10. Research based Community Engagement Projects: The following projects are implement so far: 
    a. Reducing Hepatitis B Virus infection and transmission through community-based health education intervention approach in the selected kebeles of Konso District, Southern Ethiopia Based on recent research output 2018/19.
    b. Improving cervical CA screening uptake among Reproductive Age Group.
    c. Improving adherence to iron intake and awareness on feeding behavior of pregnant woman in Arbaminch town. South west Ethiopia.
    d. Improving adolescent reproductive health and sexual life through comprehensive sexuality education among high school students of Arba Minch Zuria Woreda, Gamo Zone Southern Ethiopia.
    e. Improving awareness and practice on breast self-examination among women 20 and above in Selected Kebeles of Arba Minch Zuria District, Gamo Zone, Southern Ethiopia.
    f. Scaling up kangaroo mother care implementation in public health Facilities of Gamo and Gofa Zones Southern Ethiopia.
    g. Improving community-based health insurance enrollment status through community mobilization and advocacy in selected kebeles of Chencha District.
    h. Improving self –management practice of diabetic patients in Arba Minch Town and Arba Minch Zuria Woreda.
    i. Community based newborn care practice and identification of neonatal danger signs among matters in Chencha District, Gamo Zone, Southern Ethiopia.
    j. Improving societal behavior on prevention of parasitic infection to reduce its morbidity via Social & behavioral change common strategies in Arb Minch Zuria District.
    k. Control of Schistosomiasis among small & large-scale irrigation workers in Gamo Zone and South Omo Zone.
    l. Chronic disease care data handling at Arba Minch General Hospital.
    m. Improving awareness and practice of Birth Registration in case of Mierab Abaya Woreda.
    n. Improve child feeding practices and adequacy of homemade complementary food through integrated nutrition education in Arba Minch Zuria District.
    o. Hypertension screening, linkage and self-care management among adults and general population in Arba Minch Town.
    p. Improving of TB/HIV Collaborative Care programs.
    q. Improving of medical information service in Arba Minch and Chencha Hospital.
    r. RH compatibility and improving maternal health services.
    s. Improving intervention of Substance Abuse in AMU students and high School Students
    t. Improving adolescent reproductive health in Arba Minch Town.
    u. Improving community perception and attitude towards people with mental illness among Arba Minch Zuria Districts 2013.
    v. Reducing incidence of catheter associated UTIs.
    w. Improving FP utilization among RAW with disability in Arba Minch Town.
    x. Improving maternal delays for skilled delivery among pregnant mothers.
    y. Improving occupational health and safety of small-scale industry workers at work place in Arba Minch Town.
    z. Improving the status of birth preparedness and complication readiness plan in selected Woredas.
    aa. Reducing complications of bone setting through improving traditional bone setter.
    bb. Improving community behavioral intention towards practicing common harmful traditional practices on 5yrs old children in Alle special woreda.
    cc. Scaling up rate of peripheral blood smear examination service provision in public hospitals of Gamo, Gofa, Konso and South Omo zones, research-based project.
    dd. Improving maternal and child diet through integrated nutrition intervention in Arba Minch Zuria Woreda, Gamo Zone, Southern Ethiopia 2022/23.
    ee. Improving attitude acceptance of human papilloma vaccination among primary students Arba Minch town.
    ff. Improving routine health information system RHIS DATA quality and information use Arba Minch Zuria Woreda.
    gg. Designing and Developing an EHR System for NTD Program that replace paper based medical records which can help health professionals make evidence-based decision in AMGH.
