Health Science Education Development Centre (HSEDC) of College of Medicine and Health Sciences has conducted three-day workshop on Standard-based Management and Recognition (SBM-R) for its employees at Video Conference Hall, Nechsar Campus. It began on 30th Jan and concluded on 2nd February, 2015. 

The Department of Nursing was established in 2007 for regular undergraduate students’ training program. Presently, it’s running generic BSc nursing, surgical, ophthalmic, neonatology, pediatric nursing and also MSc in maternal and reproductive health nursing whereby continued its contribution in addressing the human resource development needs of the country.

Nursing is a practice-oriented profession, wherein students acquire clinical aptitude through team training and hospital-based practice in different settings. In this rapidly changing healthcare scenario, where society’s expectation is rising, nurses need to acquire better knowledge, competence and freedom in decision-making.

The department aims to churn out responsibly competent and compassionate mavens at UG and Master-level through academic excellence with integration of theoretical & practical teaching-learning and conducting problem-solving research that will ease the community’s healthcare distress.

VISION

Department wants to be one of the best nursing training and healthcare research centre with community service on its agenda and its professionals will be improving the health of society and nation by 2020.

The Department of Public Health was established along with other departments in 2007-8. Initially, it started classes with 76 students assigned by the Ministry of Education. Apart from regular, since 2010, the department also runs programs in summer and day-time extension to cater to the emerging needs of the community.

The department had launched Master in Public Health with Addis Continental Institute of Public Health admitting 37 students for the first time. Presently, it independently runs General Public Health, Epidemiology and Biostatistics & Reproductive programs in regular and extension mode.

VISION

The department aspires to become a leading center in East Africa in training, research and community services by 2020.

MISSION

It aims to produce professionals, who can render preventive, curative and rehabilitative services and undertake applied research at different levels to strengthen of Ethiopian Health System.

The department has started to be operational since 2009 (2001 E.C) with an initial intake of 51 students and a second admission of 62 students in 2010. A total of 113 students are currently attending their study of which 23 (20.3%) are female students.

Academic Staff Profile

This is currently run by three undergraduate Medical Doctors and one in applied Biology in full time employment.  To overcome the shortage of instructors the department is delivering courses are offered by guest lecturers from the vicinity and the country as a temporary solution.
