The AMU-IUC is collaborating with Arba Minch University to implement various projects that benefit both the university and the surrounding community. As part of this initiative, we are preparing to conduct a training program focused on PhD courses and gender inclusivity, scheduled for August 25 to 31, 2025. This training will involve selected PhD candidates from various Ethiopian universities, as well as candidates from AMU through the TISP7 sub-project. The sessions will be led by esteemed professors from Belgium universities, including KU Leuven and Antwerp, along with Ethiopian professionals. The training will be delivered in a hybrid format.
The training will cover essential topics, including:
- The Central Research Question in a PhD: Basics and Essential aspects
- Planning and Timing theory: Responsibilities of Candidates and Supervisors
- Gender & Diversity Sensitive Work: Theory and Practice
- PPT and Oral presentation Skills for Research
- Challenges in Writing a PhD
- Qualitative Research: Challenges and Opportunities
- How to include stakeholders in an inclusive way in your PhD
- Quantitative Research: Challenges and Opportunities
Application Process
Participation in the training program is open to those who apply and meet the following criteria/commitments:
- Must be First year or second year PhD candidate. (If female candidates are not in such education status, the university female staff who have conducted different researches, have published articles and who are soon going to start their PhD can be considered as an eligible candidate).
- Must be able to attend the training on 24 - 30 August 2025. Participate fully and voluntarily in an isolated setting in Arba Minch. Demonstrated concern regarding gender inclusion, time management, and accompanying constraints in a PhD milestone
- The application should include their CV and a short statement of interest outlining their background, work experience and why they would like to attend the training should be submitted
- Priority shall be given to applicants with long years of work experience in their field of study.
- Selection of participants shall be balanced with 50% female and 50% male participants.
