Thomas Torora (PhD), Director for Grants and Collaborative Projects Management Directorate, the principal investigator of AMU-Clim project, and the trainer, stated that the aim of this training is to empower staffs from both institutes in how to process and analyze complex satellite climate data set and different techniques of processing the data set with skills to work on server machines, Dr. Thomas underscored.

Aschalew Chere (PhD), one of the trainees from Faculty of Water Resources and Irrigation Engineering, said, this training is essential from the discipline of atmospheric science and hydrology because it uses different open data sources for geospatial analysis. Knowing python programming and using it for different hydrological and atmospheric analysis and using different mechanisms to download geospatial data is important and helpful, he noted. Dr. Aschalew added that he gained a lot from this training in terms of how to identify open data sources, use different techniques to download and apply it for the future hydrological data analysis. Another trainee Mr. Tadele Badebo, from Ethiopian Meteorology Institute, appreciating the trainer and the organizer of the training, emphasized the importance of the training as it’s directly related to their daily work in the institute, analyze complex climate data and send the meaningful result to users. He confirmed that he gained updates in his knowledge in terms of how to interpret world wide data and use it in local level.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Tesfaye Habtemariam (PhD), Research Affairs Directorate Director and delegate for Vice President for Research and Cooperation, briefed understanding data and applying it for different uses is vital; if it is more complex climate data set, it is more important for the whole country and appreciated the selection of team composition in terms of institutional collaboration, staff involvement, PhD students’ with gender participation.

Thee participants and invited guests were awarded the certificate of participation.
