Arba Minch University (AMU) held an orientation program for newly admitted international students on December 8, 2025, at the Main Campus. The session introduced foreign students to the university’s duties and responsibilities, their rights and obligations, and AMU’s key rules and regulations. Click here to see more photos.
Dr. Adanech Zemede, Coordinator for Academic Internationalization and Collaboration at AMU, explained that understanding an institution’s rules is vital for ensuring a safe, orderly, and fair learning environment, as it prevents misunderstandings, upholds academic integrity, sets clear expectations, and prepares students for broader societal responsibilities. She emphasized that “role clarity acts as a roadmap that guides individuals and teams toward shared goals while reducing miscommunication and inefficiency.” She added that the orientation mainly covered the AMU Students’ Discipline Guideline and the International Students’ Handbook.
Assistant Professor Satenaw Sando, Vice Dean of the Main Campus Students’ Service Directorate and delegate for the AMU Students’ Service Directorate, said that understanding one’s rights and obligations, rules and regulations, and duties and responsibilities is essential for reducing confusion, preventing burnout, and fostering accountability. It clarifies individual roles, aligns efforts with team goals, boosts satisfaction, and minimizes conflict, ultimately leading to stronger performance and a more positive learning environment. “It gives students purpose, helps them stay focused, and empowers them to act effectively within a team or organization,” he noted. He further added that this first-of-its-kind orientation is designed to equip international students with a clear understanding of AMU’s expectations, helping the university minimize potential risks in the future.
International students from South Sudan, Somalia, Punt land and Somaliland were in attendance.
