The meeting agenda covered critical areas of evaluating past performances, addressing the challenges faced, and setting a focused plan for 2025/26, including seeking new accreditations and improving editorial processes, Dr. Simon said.
Dr. Abera Uncha, Dean of the College of Social Sciences and Humanities, acknowledged the success of EJBSS in attaining national accreditation and emphasized plans to maintain the journal’s current standing, expand review processes, and introduce manuscripts in the Gamo language to widen academic representation.
Thomas Torora (PhD), a representative of AWTi, emphasized the importance of grant-seeking opportunities to ensure sustainable support for research and journals and also urged for innovative initiatives that motivate both researchers and academics while enhancing visibility and impact.
The participants collectively agreed on the need to strengthen editorial processes, maintain high quality and diversity, and ensure timely dissemination of research outputs. The meeting stressed the vital role of awareness creation for non-accredited journals, encouraging academic contributions and paving the way for future accreditation. Additionally, dedicated support for researchers and publishers is recommended alongside targeted efforts to adapt global best practices in academic publishing. The directors, editors, and representatives from various AMU journals including OMOIJS, EJBSS, EJWST, and EIJET shared valuable insights regarding their respective journals' achievements, challenges faced, and future plans aimed at enhancing impact, quality, and accreditation.
