The Ethiopian Professionals in STEM in North America (EPSNA) has started the 2025 Virtual Summer School Program since August 11, 2025; it will continue until August 15, 2025. Diverse STEM professionals across the globe are presenting their scientific findings with ample experiences of professionalism. Arba Minch, Addis Ababa, Addis Ababa Science & Technology, Bahir Dar, Gondar, Haramaya, Jimma, Hawassa, Wolaita, Werabe, Wolkite along with other 22 Ethiopian Universities and an Abyiadi College are virtually participating in it. EPSNA President Daniel Erenso (PhD), in his message of 2025 Virtual Summer School program, said, this year, it is hosted through eight regional university centers of Addis Ababa, Bahir Dar, Haramaya, Hawassa, Arba Minch, Jimma, Mekelle, and Wollega universities. Together, the centers have been engaging hundreds of students from more than 27 universities nationwide, Dr. Daniel noted. Giving more details on the area coverage of the 2025 program, the president explained that it reflects the breadth and depth of STEM with topics spanning around the physical, life, and computational sciences: sustainable energy technologies, advanced materials, climate and environmental research, quantum science and computing, atmospheric and space science, biomedical diagnostics, artificial intelligence, seismology, polymer physics, and innovative engineering solutions showcasing the interconnectedness of STEM fields in addressing pressing global and national challenges from health and sustainability to energy and technology.
Tesfaye Gebremariam (PhD), College of Natural and Computational Sciences Community Engagement Coordinator at AMU and EPSNA-AMU Center Coordinator, said, the Virtual Summer School program plays a significant role in supporting STEM students and professionals to share and develop their expertise, foster future institutional collaborations, disseminate research findings and get scholarships and grants. According to him, in the future, the center serves as a central joint for STEM students and professional staff in the catchment sister universities under the umbrella of Physics department. 20 participants have been following the program virtually from the center and those who fully completed the sessions only will be certified on the end-date, August 15, 2025, he underlined.
EPSNA is a nonprofit organization committed to advancing STEM education, research, and collaboration among Ethiopians in Ethiopia, North America, and beyond. Originally physics-focused professional network, EPSNA now embraces all STEM disciplines and has the mission of promoting and supporting STEM education and research, providing scholarships, financial aid and mentorship for Ethiopian students and educators of the same discipline, exposing students to state-of-the-art research and career opportunities, facilitating collaborative research and faculty partnerships, organizing conferences, workshops, and short courses, serving as a networking platform and advocating for excellence and recognition.
