Arba Minch University (AMU) holds a graduation ceremony and rolled out 74 medical doctors and 129 health sciences in total 203 graduates from college of Medicine and Health Sciences; 11 PhDs and 252 Master students from seven programs and 765 UG students across all campuses graduated in Main Campus on February 22, 2025. Distinguished guests, faculty, family members, and other well-wishers gathered to honor the achievements of the graduates.  Click here to see more photos.

AMU President, Abdella Kemal (PhD, Ing.), delivering his inspiring speech and congratulating message to graduates and families underscored that the graduates possess the ability to drive meaningful improvements in public health outcomes and urged the graduates to contribute to society with knowledge, ethics, and dedication, reinforcing the notion that their education represents not only personal success but also a responsibility to the community health care improvement and comprehensive development.

The guest of honor, Mr. Yosef Sonko, the Deputy Head of the South Ethiopia Regional State Health Bureau and the official delegate for the Head, addressed the graduates that the critical link between health and national development is that a healthy citizen is the foundation for any progress. Mr. Yosef acknowledged the government's efforts to enhance the health sector noting the establishment of over 48,000 health service institutions nationwide which significantly improved the health coverage to 82 percent. He urged the graduates to embrace their roles in providing quality health services and to actively participate in reducing the prevalence of both communicable and non-communicable diseases.

Dr. Zakira Tebarek, with CGPA of 3.87 from school of Medicine, and graduate Berhanu Mihret, with CGPA of 3.97 and 36A+’s from department of Pharmacy, were applauded for their excellent achievements and awarded gold medals. In addition, Dr. Zakira Tebarek and Haymanot Demwoz with CGPA of 3.9 and 30A+’s were honored with special awards for their outstanding posts among School of Medicine and Health Sciences female graduates respectively.

Dr. Desta Galcha, Chief Executive Director of College of Medicine and Health Sciences recited professional oath for graduates of the college and presented college level special recognition gift to Dr. Zakira Tebarek (CGPA 3.87), Dr. Miresa Kumsa (CGPA 3.85) and Dr. Rahama Ansa (CGPA 3.71); Malebo Mancha (PhD), Director of AMU Registrar and Alumni Directorate,  read out the graduates list whereas Serekeberhan Takele (PhD), the delegate of Academic Affairs VP, approved their graduation ceremonially. Fissiha Bekele (PhD Candidate) anchored the program.

AMU’s College of Medicine and Health Sciences has produced a total of 817 medical doctors through its 10 rounds successive convocations and over 4,300 health professionals since its year of establishment, 2000 G.C.

The ceremony marked the graduation of 765 UG graduates with health graduates of the day and those across all campuses, 252 masters and 11 PhD graduates from 7 programs in total 1,028 graduates. With this figure, AMU’s nationwide contribution of professionals in different disciplines in total sums up to 82,544 graduates.
