Entrepreneurship development is a crucial pillar of national growth, social transformation, and sustainable development. As we celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) 2025, observed worldwide from November 17–23, we take immense pride in Ethiopia’s remarkable achievement in securing first place globally in the number of entrepreneurial events and activities conducted this year. This milestone reflects our nation’s growing commitment to cultivating an innovative, opportunity-driven, and competitive economy.
To maintain this outstanding ranking throughout the week and beyond, we must continue working with greater dedication, collaboration, and creativity. Arba Minch University (AMU) remains deeply committed to contributing its share to Ethiopia’s visibility and success in GEW. In partnership with the Entrepreneurship Development Institute, AMU has been hosting and coordinating a wide range of impactful activities designed to strengthen entrepreneurial capacity and stimulate innovation.
This year, the University planned and implemented several key GEW events, including capacity-building trainings, business idea pitch competitions, panel discussions, and networking sessions. These initiatives have already produced notable achievements: more than 700 students across all AMU campuses received Youth Entrepreneurship Training, equipping them with essential entrepreneurial mindsets and skills; ninety academic staff completed a six-day entrepreneurship workshop focused on ten core entrepreneurial competencies; and 104 administrative staff are currently participating in Public Entrepreneurship Training designed to enhance institutional efficiency, problem-solving capacity, and service innovation.
Collectively, these efforts are transforming the mindset, behavior, and performance of both academic and administrative staff, laying the groundwork for a more vibrant and resilient innovation ecosystem within the University. Our panel discussions, industry collaborations, and engagement with external stakeholders further reinforce AMU’s mission to nurture creativity, problem-solving, and enterprise development.
The success of GEW 2025 at AMU is clear evidence of our unwavering commitment to advancing entrepreneurship development. We will continue to strengthen our initiatives, inspire innovation, and empower our youth to become job creators, innovators, and leaders of tomorrow. AMU is proud to play its role in shaping Ethiopia’s entrepreneurial landscape, and we reaffirm our dedication to sustaining this momentum throughout the year.
“Together We Build!”
