AMU School of Law received best Memorial Award of ICRC Moot Court Competition held in Gondar, Ethiopia, which focused on International Humanitarian Law (IHL); law schools from across the country gathered to compete showcasing their legal knowledge, advocacy skills, and commitment to humanitarian principles. Among the contenders, the best memorial was awarded to AMU team for its content clarity, depth of legal analysis, and outstanding research. Click here to see more photos.
The acting dean of AMU School of Law, Mr. Abreham Kinfe, said, this competition is prepared by International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in collaboration with Gondar University; the final winners will compete in Tanzania, in all Africa level. The competition has two categories, the best script and the oral round, and Jimma, Hawassa, Arba Minch, Gondar, Haromaya and Bahr Dar universities got selected for the final; AMU won the best memorial category whereas Hawassa University notched the oral round category, Mr. Abreham noted. According to him, AMU School of Law team’s success marks AMU’s growing reputation in moot court competitions and its commitment to producing high-caliber legal professionals. The award also serves as an inspiration to current and future law students to strive for academic and professional excellence, hence AMU School of Law extends heartfelt congratulations to the entire team, staff members who engaged in this tough competition and AMU community at large, he underscored. AMU School of team was awarded a gold medal and certificates for participant students.
The coach and representative from the School of Law, Belayneh Birhanu (PhD), said, this achievement is a testament to the hard work, discipline, and intellectual rigor of our students and reflects the strength of our legal training and dedication to excel in international humanitarian law.
Getayawkal Mahari and Koket Desta, both fifth year, and Yonas Sisay, fourth year, students participated in the competition.
