Arba Minch University (AMU) held its 39th Convocation Ceremony on June 27, 2026, at Abaya Campus Auditorium. Degrees were awarded to 1,462 graduates, comprising 1,263 undergraduate and 199 master's and PhD graduates. The ceremony brought together senior government officials, members of the University Administrative Board, University leaders, staff, graduates, families, alumni, and invited guests to celebrate the graduates' academic achievements. Guest of Honour Eng. Habtamu Tegegn, Minister of Mines and Chairperson of the AMU Administrative Board, congratulated the graduates on their academic achievement and extended his congratulations to their families for their unwavering support throughout the journey. Addressing the graduates, he said their degrees represent far more than certificates, reflecting years of hard work, perseverance, and dedication. He noted that AMU is among the few public universities preparing to enter autonomy as a pioneering research-led university, a testament to its growing academic excellence and institutional transformation. Encouraging the graduates to uphold the University's values, Eng. Habtamu urged them to serve as worthy ambassadors of their alma mater wherever they go and wished them success in their future endeavors.

Congratulating the graduates on reaching a significant milestone in their academic journey, Dr. Ing. Abdella Kemal, President of Arba Minch University, extended his heartfelt congratulations to the graduates, their families, relatives, and all well-wishers who supported them throughout their educational pursuit. He commended the graduates for their perseverance and resilience, emphasizing that learning is a lifelong endeavor and urging them to remain hardworking, adaptable, and committed to continuous learning and professional growth in response to rapid technological advancements. The President noted that the 39th Convocation is particularly significant as it coincides with the University's successful differentiation of its academic and research disciplines, its readiness to enter institutional autonomy, and its recent designation as a Regional Training Center by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) jointly with the Ethiopian Meteorological Institute (EMI). He further encouraged the graduates to uphold integrity, serve their communities with dedication and a strong sense of responsibility, and wished them lasting success while expressing appreciation to the University community, parents, families, and all others whose invaluable support contributed to the graduates' achievements.

AMU Alumni President Mr. Ermiyas Alemu congratulated the graduates on their academic achievement and extended his best wishes to their families for their continued support. He encouraged the graduates to serve their nation with diligence, integrity, and perseverance as they join the growing community of more than 89,000 AMU alumni. Mr. Ermiyas also called on the new graduates to connect with the AMU Alumni community through its Telegram and LinkedIn platforms to benefit from sustained professional support, networking, and career development opportunities.

During the ceremony, Dr. Malebo Mancha, AMU Registrar, presented the list of graduates across the University's academic disciplines, while Dr. Serekebirhan Takele, Official Delegate for Academic Affairs Vice President and Director of Academic Programs, Evaluation and Implementation, conferred the degrees. Guest of Honour Eng. Habtamu Tegegn and other senior officials presented gold medals and special awards to outstanding graduates, including female excellence awards recognizing high-achieving women graduates.

With the 1,462 graduates of the 39th Convocation, AMU has now produced a total of 89,276 graduates professionally equipped to serve in various sectors in Ethiopia and beyond. During the ceremony, Chief Executive Director of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dr. Desta Galcha, and Dean of the School of Law, Mr. Abreham Kinfe, administered the professional oath to graduates of their respective disciplines.
