Arba Minch University (AMU) recently hosted Campus France Ethiopia orientation for AMU students and academic staff on study opportunities in France on January 17, 2025; approximately 400 students and academic staff participated. Click here to see more photos.
Mr.Yohannes Tadesse, an Executive Director of Public and International Relations, emphasizing on AMU's commitment and a general profile, said, AMU is carrying out different capacity-building initiatives across various sectors and is also dedicated to facilitating access to free education opportunities abroad, awareness creation and challenges students and academic staff face in the process. He also expressed optimism about enhancing cooperative efforts with Campus France and other collaborators to increase the beneficiaries of such educational opportunities abroad.
Mr. Nikodimos Michiel, a representative from Campus France Ethiopia, provided a comprehensive overview of initiatives aimed at supporting Ethiopian students. He engaged the participants with thought-provoking questions about French culture, history, and economic, political and social impacts sparking lively discussion. Mr. Nikodimos elaborated on the numerous benefits of pursuing education in France highlighting access to over 1,600 English-taught programs across various fields including Business Management, Engineering Technology, Fashion and Design, and Arts and Humanities. Studying in France not only offers high-quality education but also provides a vibrant student life enriched by cultural experiences and social assistance programs. “With a reasonable tuition fees for non-EU students and a diverse higher education landscape, France also stands out as an attractive destination for international students,” he remarked.
Mr. Nikodimos, furthermore, shared his personal journey as a scholarship recipient who studied in France, providing firsthand insights into the application process and the rewarding experiences that come with studying abroad. He outlined the compelling reasons to choose France for higher education: state-funded education, a diverse range of institutions, a rich cultural environment and others. Learning French allows students to experience a vibrant student life, complete with discounts for cultural activities and opportunities for personal growth, Mr. Nikodimos emphasized.
The Representative of the French Embassy Project Officer for Higher Education Ms. Maëla Bobinet, another presenter at the event, discussed various scholarships available for foreign students in France including the European Mobility and the MasterCard Foundation Scholarships. She highlighted Campus Bourses as an invaluable resource for finding funding options and navigating scholarship applications. She also encouraged the attendees to visit the Campus France office at Alliance Ethio-Française in Addis Ababa for personalized guidance and assistance.
The participants raised various questions on a range of topics including registration requirements, visa processes, and available free scholarship education programs. The two representatives responded to the queries ensuring the attendees with clear understanding of the steps involved in pursuing their academic dreams in France.
