Arba Minch University (AMU) and EUR-ISS, Netherlands, an institution for higher education and research, and legal host of the International Center for Frugal Innovation, Arba Minch Polytechnic Satellite Institute (AMPSI) and Alliance College inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a framework for collaboration and understanding between parties to engage in mutually beneficial initiatives at AMU, Main Campus, on October 18, 2024. AMU president, Dr. Damtew Darza, briefed AMU’s details and said currently AMU is one of the eight research universities and it’s is also among 50 public universities in Ethiopia. He added that AMU has rich experience of working with local and international institutions and organizations. The business affairs, job creation, innovation, and the likes are really very important aspects of this agreement, he noted. AMU will implement the obligations of the collaboration successfully as per the MoU using experienced and senior staffs, he remarked and appreciated those who prepared and developed the MoU.
Prof. Dr. Peter Knorringa, Academic Director for the International Center for Frugal Innovation, highlighted the overview of the program; giving lowdown on Frugal Innovation Center, he said, it is the collaboration between three universities namely: University of Leiden, Delft University of Technology and Erasmus University Rotterdam in Netherlands. Erasmus University is specialized more on entrepreneurship on business modeling thinking in Economics, Delft University of technology focuses on technology, engineering and design, and Leiden University focuses more on natural sciences and humanities and social studies and if you feel to integrate these areas of specialization, you will have all the elements for successful Frugal Innovation research, the Academic Director explained. The very important thing for us is having strategic collaboration with universities across the world; therefore, we are extremely happy to sign MoU with the Ethiopian institutions: AMU, AMPSI and Alliance College.

Community Engagement and University-Industry Linkage Directorate Director Dr. Tolera Seda and Entrepreneurial Development and Incubation Center Director Dr. Wondwesen Jerene and others were in attendance during the signing ceremony.
