Arba Minch University (AMU) in Collaboration with Ministry of Education (MoE) organized a two day Public Relations Executives and/or directors forum meeting at AMU which started on April 5, 2025. The forum will close up tomorrow with a visit arranged by AMU. Click here to see more photos.
Getachew Tefera, Chief Executive Officer of MoE, officially opening the forum, said, the basic objective of the public Relations Executives’ forum is experience sharing; education sector is undergoing continuous reform which can’t be successful without effective communication. Access, equity, quality and fairness issues seem to be simple utterly spoken, yet they are complex in nature and need to be handled carefully where the communication of harmonizing strategies will play a crucial role, he stressed. Mr. Getachew gave a lowdown on the ministry’s targets and plans which universities will implement as they themselves transform to differentiation and then to autonomy. The PRs will bridge effectively the ministry’s institutions and the public in their specific contexts, he aspired.
Bogale Gebremariam (PhD, Ing.), delegate for AMU President and Academic Affairs Vice President, said, though higher education expansion is well performed so far, the quality education and skilled man-power production is still under challenge and needs to communicate strategies to quickly fix problems. Higher education public relations executives and directors forum will be an important platform to share among participants how to function effectively and strategically the communication of important contents of higher education targets and achievements, he remarked. Dr. Bogale also pointed out that PRs should play the role of significant and impactful communication to bridge institutional achievements to the target public, general audience and stakeholders.
Mesfin Bogale, Public and Relations and Communication Executive at MoE, presenting on the principles of public relations raised points which hit the nail on the head whereas Samson Mekonnen (PhD), Ethiopian Mass Media Authority Director, shared his views on this digital tech era on the title PRs and communication strategies. Elias Worku (PhD), Lecturer at Addis Ababa University, also shared on leveraging digital media for PRs and Tesfaye Negewo, Head of Curriculum and Programs Desk at MoE, presented on HEIs KPIs Communication impact and responsibility and the participants discussed after the presentations.
The next day schedule will also continue with sharing AMU’s experiences by Tesfaye Habtemariam (PhD), AMU Research Affairs Executive Director, Tadesse Tasew, Head of Ethiopian Institute of Ombudsman Information Freedom Legal Implementation Supervision Desk, will have a presentation on Information Freedom Law Implementation and HEIs PRs Executives’ Forum establishment document will also be presented by the committee members for commenting and improvements before endorsing.
It’s also noted in the schedule that the PRs will have continued discussion sessions and visit arranged places by Arba Minch University.
