Having attained the status of a university, Arba Minch University, initially had few pupils, now it’s hosting 23,329 students, which speaks volumes about its rapid development. Now it’s rated as one of the premier education institutions, proactively contributing in nation’s development by churning out trained professionals in water technology in particular, Dean of Social Science and Humanities College, Mr Tesfaye Alemu said.

This week-long exhibition is going to be very interesting as all the participants including water engineering and other departments have put up innovative models of all the existing dams of Ethiopia in a single room. And, I hope when other universities would come, they will enjoy it, the Arba Minch University Board Chairman, Mr Tagesse Chafo said.

In order to strengthen its existing infrastructure, Arba Minch University has unleashed series of constructions to support its ever expanding academic and allied activities. The construction being carried out in two stages – Tier-I & Tier-II, is expected to be completed in the stipulated timeframe of 18 months.

‘‘Every year, the Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA), would need 50,000 skilled professionals in the road sector of which, 5,000 are civil engineers with MSc degree. This sector being dynamic, the volumes of projects and sophistication works continue to grow that keeps our need changing all the time,’’ said the Deputy Director General of ERA, Mr Bekele Negussie.

‘‘In the meeting between seven universities Institutes of Technology and Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA), the latter has proposed university-industry linkage in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that has detailed activities on research, consultancy services and joint programs to be launched together,’’ said Academic Affairs Vice President, Dr Agena Anjulo.
