Welcome to the official profile page of the e-Learning Management Unit (eLMU) at Arba Minch University. The eLMU is the central office responsible for leading the university's digital transformation in teaching and learning. Our unit ensures that Arba Minch University becomes a leader in digital education by providing high-quality, accessible learning experiences for all.

Vision

To establish Arba Minch University as a leading institution in digital education, providing high-quality and accessible learning experiences for all stakeholders.

Mission

To effectively manage, support, and continuously improve the university's e-learning initiatives. We focus on:

  • Staff Development: Equipping faculty with advanced digital skills and Master Class training.
  • Student Success: Providing students with digital literacy and the tools needed for excellence in a virtual environment.
  • Innovation: Creating a comprehensive "Digital AMU" through state-of-the-art technology and high-quality online resources.

Roles and Responsibilities

The eLMU serves as the primary unit for planning and implementing national and institutional e-learning policies. Our core responsibilities include:

  • Coordination & Planning: Designing and managing the university's overall e-learning activities and annual budgets.
  • Capacity Building: Delivering regular professional development training for instructors and orientation for students.
  • Content Production: Managing the university's professional e-Learning Studio to produce high-quality video lectures and interactive media.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensuring that all online courses meet high pedagogical and technical standards before they are released.
  • Platform Management: Overseeing the Learning Management System (LMS) in collaboration with the ICT Directorate to ensure 24/7 access for all users.
  • Support Services: Providing technical and pedagogical assistance to help instructors transition traditional courses into engaging online formats.
  • Research & Monitoring: Conducting surveys and research to evaluate the effectiveness of digital initiatives and propose improvements.

Organizational Structure

The eLMU is led by a Director who reports to the Academic Vice President. The unit is supported by a dedicated team and works through several collaborative offices:

Key Positions within eLMU

  • Director of eLMU: A senior academic staff member who oversees the coordinated functioning of e-learning across the institution.
  • e-Learning Training Officer: Coordinates instructional design support and pedagogical training for faculty and students.
  • e-Learning System Administrator: Manages the technical operation, security, and maintenance of digital platforms.
  • Administrative Assistant: Provides administrative, technical, and operational support to the unit.
  • Instructional Designer: Responsible for developing learning objectives, reshaping course content for online delivery, and creating assessments.
  • Script Writer: A professional with a teaching background who uses proven editorial skills to draft and refine educational scripts for studio recording.
  • Animation Designer: Creates 2D and 3D animations, technical art, and storyboards to make complex concepts easier to understand.
  • Visual Designer: Delivers creative motion graphics and aesthetic 3D renders for multimedia course materials.
  • Educational Media Editor: A cinematography and film studies expert who manages video editing software (e.g., Premiere, After Effects) to produce high-quality lecture videos.
  • Production Engineer: Operates professional studio equipment, including high-quality recorders, lighting systems, and multi-track mixers.

Offices and Collaborative Bodies

  • e-Learning Management Commission (eLMC): An oversight body consisting of representatives from campus eLMU coordinators, ICT, Registrar, and Academic Units to coordinate university-wide digital strategies.
  • The e-Learning Studio: A specialized facility for creating professional educational media.
  • College-Level e-Learning Coordinators: Focal persons within each college who oversee the local implementation of e-learning standards.
  • Academic Unit (Department) Coordinators: Staff who support instructors and students at the program and course level.
