Arba Minch University (AMU)’s senior Enset researcher and innovator, Dr. Addisu Fekadu along with Dr. Vignesh Muthusamy from Indian Agricultural Research Institute, India, and Dr. Ivan Eduardo Ramirez Morales from Technological University of Machala, Ecuador, won the 19th Japan International Award 2025 for Young Agricultural Researchers at the ceremony held on October 27, 2025 at National Center of Sciences Building in Hitotsubashi Hall, Tokyo. Ethiopian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Japan, H.E Ambassador Daba Debele Hunde, Dr. Teklu Wegayehu, AMU Vice President for Research and Cooperation, Dr. Dagnew Mache, postdoctoral fellow of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) at the University of Tsukuba, graced the awarding ceremony. Arba Minch University (AMU), Ethiopia, and Save Foods - Redefining Freshness, Israeli agri-food-tech Public Company, entered a strategic collaborative agreement by formally signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) together on 22nd October, 2025 at AMU, Kulfo Campus. Arba Minch University (AMU), the German Development Bank (KfW), and Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) Sustainable Land Management (SLM-V) Project hosted a successful second round training for manpower involving in data collection, on October 20, 2025, at Main Campus. The landmark initiative is a KfW-funded and being implemented by MoA across 10 woredas, of which seven of them are from Gamo Zone, in South Ethiopia Region, in the Lake Chamo watershed.
